Hands of the Vise - Stamina Knack

Hands of the Vise - Stamina Knack - No Prerequisites

Your grip is steely, and it is nearly impossible to disarm you. This is not due to strength, per se, but rather because you're just determined and have very sturdy hands. The difficulty to disarm you or twist an inanimate object from your grasp, is raised by an amount equal to your successes from Epic Stamina. In addition, the "immovable objects" that are your limbs add +1 die per dot of Epic Stamina in contested grapple rolls.

You may choose to release your grip at any time, but the default assumption is you retain your hold even when incapacitated or inactive. You could safely hang off a bridge or girder and take a nap.

Edited: was Vice, not Vise. That name deserves a very different power.

Edit: After some peer-review and feedback at the Scion forums, I think this knack has issues, and is not usable as written. It made Clinches (already quite strong mechanically) just too good. As such, I trimmed out every reference to grappling. Here's the original text that I cut:

"Should you ever lose a contested grapple roll, the opponent cannot choose to Break Hold without your permission unless they have the Escape Artist knack. They can still Hold, Crush, or even Move normally while you stay locked to them. They must make the contested roll again the next time either of you get an action. You may choose to release your grip at any time, but the default assumption is you retain your hold even when incapacitated or inactive."

Yeah, that would have gotten ugly. It's sad though, 'cause the remaining scraps of a knack may be too weak to be worth taking.

Edit: Added "+1 die to grapples" since otherwise it eroded verisimilitude.

Having it give a tiny little bonus is far from unbalancing, and at least gives a nod to the concept that having such fortitude should accentuate your wrestling proficiency.

Edit: After further discussion on the forum, increased grapple bonus to be dice equal to Epic Stamina dots. This way it parallels the Escape Artist knack.

Am leaving bonus to resist disarm at it's very high levels. This does two things:

It says "no" to those seeking to disarm you - with a lesser bonus it might say "go ahead, it's worth trying 'cause you could get lucky."

It makes it very hard for Richochet Symphony (from Scion: Demigod) to cancel this. With a bonus based on dots, the RS knack would completely trump this one.
